Kaspersky: Number of users facing monitoring soft doubles Jan–Aug
MOSCOW, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- The number of Russians facing legal software monitoring their activities in the network and near the computer has doubled on the year since the beginning of 2019, antivirus maker Kaspersky said late ùò October 4 in a statement.
On the global scale, more than 37,000 users were victims of so-called stalkerware in January–August, up 35%, but their number in Russia rose faster.
“According to the company’s statistics, from January till August 2018 slightly more than 4,500 users faced stalkerware, and in 2019 the indicator was at almost 10,000,” Kaspersky said.
The number of such programs rose by a third to 380 variants.
Despite their legitimacy, monitoring programs can stay unnoticed by users. For example, the most frequent program Monitor.AndroidOS.MobileTracker.a is positioned as a tool for companies to control their employees.
